FAQs

  • A solid fitness foundation is recommended for Psyche, Hype, and Night hikes. After completing the onboarding process, HACO will assess your fitness level and compare it with your chosen hike to determine whether the route is suitable or too challenging. For more information, click here

  • Once you’re confirmed for a hike, HACO will share specific details about food requirements. In general, it’s recommended to bring high-carb snacks that can be eaten every 30 minutes to help maintain your energy levels. For certain hikes, lunch will be provided. For more information, click here

  • Choosing the right footwear is important for each specific hike. While specialized hiking shoes are not required, a sturdy pair of running shoes with good grip is usually sufficient. HACO will provide guidance on the most suitable footwear based on the weather conditions closer to the hike date. Wearing two pairs of socks (double socking) is also recommended for added comfort and protection. For more information, click here

  • The appropriate size and weight of your backpack will depend on the type and duration of the hike. Loose or poorly fitted packs are not recommended. Instead, use a backpack that can be secured close to your body for better support and comfort. For night hikes, HACO will provide suitable overnight packs. On the day of the hike, Haco will also ensure your backpack is properly fitted and worn correctly. For more information, click here

  • Aside from bringing your own recommended amount of water, appropriate clothing, and snacks, Haco will provide all other necessary equipment to ensure the safety and success of each hike. This includes hiking poles, a first aid kit, and all essential emergency and navigational gear. For more information in regards to what to wear, click here

  • If you have asthma, you’ll be asked to provide this information during the onboarding process. It is strongly recommended that you bring any medication you may need, including your personal inhaler. HACO guides are certified in remote first aid and will carry a complete first aid kit, including an emergency asthma puffer. For more information, click here

  • If you have any specific allergies, you’ll be asked to disclose this during the onboarding process. It is strongly recommended that you bring any personal medication you may require. HACO guides are certified in remote first aid and will carry a comprehensive first aid kit, including medication to assist with reactions to flora or fauna. For more information, click here

  • If you have any underlying medical conditions, you’ll be asked to disclose them during the onboarding process. Haco will assess whether it is safe for you to participate in the hike or if medical clearance from your general practitioner is required. HACO reserves the right to decline participation if it believes your involvement may pose a risk to yourself or others. For more information, click here

  • Starting one week before the scheduled hike, HACO closely monitors weather conditions through the Bureau of Meteorology and VicEmergency. Regular updates are shared with the designated hiking group to help determine appropriate apparel and equipment. HACO will also respond promptly to any weather-related threats that may require the hike to be modified or cancelled. For more information, click here

  • HACO guides are accredited in remote first aid and are equipped with all necessary gear for emergency response or evacuation. A comprehensive emergency management plan is in place for any incident, and each hiking route is carefully planned to minimize risks as much as possible.

  • While hiking is generally considered a low-risk activity, it’s important to understand that HACO cannot fully control external environmental factors. Every hike is carefully planned and conducted with safety as the highest priority. However, you should be aware that unexpected incidents beyond HACO’s control may still occur. We recommend you seek any personal insurance to cover this activity

  • Several hike packages include full transportation provided by Haco. However, if you select a package that requires you to arrange your own transport to the starting location, HACOwill coordinate with the hiking group to explore carpooling options and support those who may need assistance.   • Hike durations can vary depending on several factors, including travel time to the destination, trail length, and terrain type. To get a better idea of time requirements, please explore our course options.

  • Depending on the type of hike and your individual fitness level, calorie burn can vary widely — from approximately 700 to 1,500 calories on a single-day hike, to as much as 8,000 calories on multi-day hikes

  • Most hikers bring their phones to capture photos and videos during the hike. You’re also welcome to bring your own camera, but please be considerate of others by keeping setup time to a minimum. Please note that HACO is not responsible for the loss or damage of any personal equipment. HACO guides will also capture moments using cameras, GoPro, and Insta360 devices, with footage shared with the group after the hike.

  • HACO holds a current Tourism Operating Licence issued by Parks Victoria. Its guides are qualified in remote first aid and have successfully completed map and compass orienteering courses.
